The City of Kitchener Fire Department Communications Division is seeking two highly motivated, people oriented individuals to work as Fire Communicators in a fast paced, team environment.

As a Civilian Communications Operator you will receive and dispatch fire and medical emergencies for the cities of Kitchener, Waterloo and the townships of Wellesley, Woolwich and Wilmot.  You will operate computer programs including a computer aided dispatch system; telephone systems including 9-1-1; as well as radio systems and equipment.  You will also assist with support services, obtaining and maintaining resource and referral data, technical information and necessary records, logs and reports.  
The successful candidate must have:
.      A minimum of Grade 12 education
.      A high level of accuracy and well developed keyboard skills
.      A clear speaking voice, and be easily understood
.      Proven customer service excellence
.      Proven verbal, written and electronic communication skills demonstrating effective listening
.      Proven decision making proficiencies including the ability to prioritize swiftly
.      The ability to react quickly and appropriately while remaining calm under stress
.      The ability to work successfully, as part of a team, with minimal supervision
.      Proven multiple task management skills
The following skills would be considered an asset:
.         Geographical knowledge of the Region of Waterloo including key facilities, structures and landmarks
.         Knowledge of communications equipment and computer applications including CriSys CAD
.         Previous dispatch experience in an emergency service
.         Certified Emergency Telecommunicator or educational equivalencies
Salary: $22.94 per hour
